It is rare when there isn’t friction between the two legislative bodies in Oklahoma. This year one of the more public splits between the state House and Senate has been over the plan to phase out the corporate income tax. ENN Editorial Cartoonist Adelind Hamilton is drawing attention to this debate as House Republicans, led by Speaker Charles McCall, R-Atoka, have called for eliminating what they say is a relatively small part of the state’s income. Senate Speaker Pro Tempore Greg Treat, R-Oklahoma City, said there isn’t enough support among his colleagues in the Senate to hear that bill. Senator Treat argued the tax cut could impact teacher retirement funding and now isn’t the time to consider the bill.
