Music Review: Rapper NF’s “CLOUDS”

by Hunter McLaughlin

Rapper NF dropped a music video for his first single of the year. The song “CLOUDS” is the second single off of “CLOUDS (THE MIXTAPE)” which will be released on March 26th, 2021.

This is NF’s first mixtape. According to music website Genius, NF said that he didn’t want to release an actual album yet if he couldn’t tour, because he builds his shows off his albums.

The song “CLOUDS” is similar to other classic NF songs and is both ominous and aggressive.

In the song, he raps the lines “Unbreakable, you following? I’m Bruce Willis in a train wreck, I’m like trading in your car for a new jet.”

These lyrics are a reference to the Bruce Willis movie, “Unbreakable.” In the movie Willis’ character discovers he can’t be hurt after surviving a train wreck. Using this film reference, NF is implying he’s unbreakable in a physical and a mental sense.

At the end of the song NF turns aggressive.

CLOUDS ends with the lyrics “I ain’t gotta say it, they know where my head is, they know where my head is.” Here, NF is referencing two previously released songs.

One was on his first album “Mansion”  and the other was on his third album “Perception.”

The first song is called “Turn the Music Up,” where he raps “My heads up in the clouds, and I ain’t coming down.”

The other song is called “Outcast.” In this song NF sang “I’m high off the music, my heads in the clouds, I kinda like it up here, I am not coming down.”

At the end of the music video, the words “CLOUDS (THE MIXTAPE)” appear on the screen, confirming and teasing the upcoming album.

NF’s flow was remarkable and his rhyme schemes were amazing.

On a scale of 1 to 10, I give this song a 10.
